Modern Wellness Spa Review: A Mother-Daughter Experience in Holistic Health
From mindful therapies to meaningful moments, here’s what made our visit special.
There’s something so special about when your teen chooses to spend time with you. My 15 ½ year old daughter (and, last baby at home), and I recently shared the most amazing wellness experience together at Modern Wellness in Saxonville, Framingham, MA.
This wasn’t your typical spa experience with manis and pedis. Everything here was all about health, healing, and restoration…and we loved every second of our three-hour journey. The staff greeted us with warmth, shared insightful knowledge about the spa’s variety of treatments and helped us customize our personal experience. Here is the personalized, experience that we chose:
We started with a guided meditation in zero-gravity chairs while wearing full compression boots.
Next up the salt chamber, where we played in the micro-salt sand (yes, I may have snuck a little salt home with me…our secret).
After rinsing off in the well equipped, individual showers, we stepped into the eucalyptus steam room, spacious enough to hold a party, and oh, so soothing.
Then came the cold plunges… YES COLD. One of the hydrotherapy baths was 55° and the other was at a shocking 44°. My daughter bravely dove right in while I eased in, breath by breath. Modern Wellness suggests each plunge should last 1-5 minutes making sure to be submerged from the neck down. I’m not sure how but I did manage to stay submerged a full minute for every plunge.
We balanced the cold with cozy hot soaks, rotating through a warm pool, infrared saunas, and mindful breathing.
What surprised me most? My daughter turned to me mid-way and said: “Mom, I’d love to do this every week with you.” My heart nearly burst! These teenage years can feel like such a tug-of-war, so to share this kind of peaceful, health-centered bonding time was a gift.
The last treatment we chose was the BioCharger. We sat around the BioChargerNG, an ion therapy device “that combines pulsed electromagnetic fields, photonic light, and frequency bands to optimize your body's energy, promoting balance and vitality". My daughter chose abundance and anti-inflammation which is one of the customizable programs that allows you to tailor the sessions to your specific wellness goals. Later that day, I felt that “abundance” ripple into my evening while bumping into old friends and expanding connections in unexpected ways.
We both left glowing. My daughter headed off to work with the biggest smile, and I floated off to dinner with friends feeling deep gratitude.
This day reminded me: wellness isn’t just about caring for the body. It’s about creating experiences that nurture the heart and strengthen our most important connections.
